In our first article, Professor Kat Albrecht, JD, PhD and Kaitlyn Filip, share their findings from a study of perspectives on virtual judicial proceedings.Their survey addresses an important and often-overlooked perspective—that of non-practitioners in the legal system. Their study asks important questions about how the public at large views virtual court proceedings. Specifically, their survey focuses on the Cook County court system in Illinois, where many proceedings have been conducted online since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Their survey presents important findings about what the public sees as the benefits and pitfalls of virtual court, and it elevates voices not often heard when these issues are discussed. The core legal texts are the seven documents that together form the basis of the Court’s legal framework: the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (Statute), the Rules of Procedure and Evidence, the Elements of Crimes, the Regulations of the Court, the Regulations of the Registry, the Regulations of the Office of the Prosecutor and the Code of Professional Conduct for counsel. The most important of these, and first to be adopted and enter into force, was the Statute, following which the remaining six texts entered into force at various points during the Court’s history. All can be amended according to their own particular amendment procedure.

The recent amendment to Federal Rule 702 marks a significant shift for expert witnesses in federal courts. In Murder Reference No.82 of 2019, the court emphasized the significance of examining the quality rather than the quantity of evidence presented. This underscores the need for a prudent approach in assessing witness statements, particularly when circ*mstantial evidence is involved. Additionally, Article 19-A of the Qanoon-e-Shahadat Order, 1984 sheds light on the relevance of statements made by the accused soon after the incident, stressing the importance of spontaneity and immediacy.
