“The traditional model for document review would have been an army of reviewers sitting in a room together, going through hundreds of thousands of documents. It could take months and be very expensive,” said David Cohen. “What we found is we saved time, we saved money and there was no diminishment in quality of the review.”CoCounsel is now beingused by Canada's largest law firms, like McCarthy Tétrault Read The Globe and Mail’s story on how its powerful generative AI capabilities are helpinglawyers across the country deliver better work - faster.#genai #canadianlaw #canadianbusiness #legaltech

This week, an article was published by Law.com Legaltech News discussing the strategies employed by law firms when it comes to utilizing Generative AI in the realm of E-Discovery, particularly in addressing the challenges posed by rapidly rising costs. To shed more light on the subject, a group of legal professionals from various law firms participated in a panel discussion during the Relativity Fest user conference held this week. The session, titled "Law Firms, Generative AI & The Future of E-Discovery," focused on the challenges faced by certain law firm leaders in dealing with the substantial costs of Generative AI. On the flip side, some expressed optimism about the potential for reduced expenses in the future when utilizing this technology in e-discovery. There were comparisons made between the current 'AI era' and the early days of Technology Assisted Review (TAR), especially regarding the initial high costs and the task of convincing clients that investing more would yield tangible value. However, there were also those who were willing to embrace the cost associated with early adoption and innovation. On a positive note, the ongoing testing of emerging technologies like Generative AI in eDiscovery will compel both law firms and clients to discern and prioritize suitable AI applications rather than simply deploying AI for the sake of it. As the panel wrapped up, and as the article highlights, the utilization and worth of AI represent an evolving journey in which all pioneers of Generative AI in e-discovery contribute their insights, eventually leading to the establishment of quantitative metrics for assessing costs.Article Link: https://lnkd.in/dWSK43pX#Ai #GenAI #LegalTech #eDiscovery #ALSP

Excited to share the news with my network that Robin AI's defined terms checker is now live and available to use in our AI contract copilot. It’s been great to see all the hard work from the Robin AI team that has gone in to developing this feature which will be a real game-changer for lawyers spending a lot of time on tricky tasks like checking defined terms that require a huge amount of patience and attention to detail! It’s straightforward to get started with Robin AI’s contract copilot - recommend using the Add-In for Word so that you can integrate legal AI straight into your workflow. If you want to find out more, you can create a free account here: www.robinai.com/word#lawyers #contracts #word #AI #genAI

Digitizing ediscovery is really complex.First, you need to identify **relevant** documents and data which is often scattered across MILLIONS of documents and hundreds of document types. Then lawyers/paralegals/experts need to review those materials to determine **relevant** facts of the case. Finally, you need to organize the information in an understandable way. It's a time-consuming and labor-intensive process, and Writer customers James Snyder and the team at DISCO have been using AI for a long time to make it less so. Then generative AI came along. And now, in Jim's words, the "human toil" of legal discovery can be totally rethought. But NOT without solving a lot of hard **relevance** problems first :)DISCO launched a digital assistant, called Cecilia, with help from the Writer platform. We loved talking to Jim about his journey to generative AI, why they chose Palmyra as their LLM, and why it's important for technical leaders to have a REAL problem to solve as they start experimenting with RAG and other data approaches. “When we added up all the constraints that we were trying to satisfy, the pool of LLM vendors gets very narrow pretty fast. There were only a few that could get us over the finish line, and for us, Writer ended up being the best combination of all requirements.”Read more at the link below🙂

The pursuit of efficiency in litigation (driven by AI or otherwise) is great, but not if it is blind to defensibility. Properly deployed, tools like Relativity's aiR for Review are crucial for maintaining this balance.By amplifying the impact of subject matter experts and retaining key stakeholders at the core of the process, aiR for Review enables document review to be completed more quickly, accurately, and cost-effectively without undermining comprehensiveness.KordaMentha's advanced access has enabled us to help clients leverage this monumental innovation, and in turn, consider how this AI solution will impact a broader discovery process ripe for disruption.

Technology innovation is a constant area of change and opportunity. As we see the growth and investment of AI innovation being utilised in eDiscovery, there is a need to not only understand how we can harness this technology effectively, but also how do we ensure that the method of how it is used is robust and defensible if ever called into question? The excellent article by Roman Barbera linked below discusses using tools such as Relativity aiR as part of your strategy for managing large scale discovery matters and some key considerations. For anyone interested in understanding how they can leverage technology such as aiR in their workflows, please do not hesitate to reach out. #kordamentha #forensic #relativity #ediscovery

There has been massive investment and hype around the premise that generative AI will become integrated in almost all aspects of white-collar work, however valid counterpoints exist around data privacy and ownership, as well as the quality of AI produced work (e.g. AI-hallucinations). However the case for deploying AI technology is already very strong in certain areas, and helping to efficiently find the needles in the giant data haystacks we can be faced with during electronic discovery is definitely one of them. See below for a great article put together by my colleague Roman Barbera covering our thoughts on this area and specifically the exciting new capabilities in Relativity aiR for Review.
